Tamu is a restaurant discovery and reservation platform built for Nairobi. One place to find real menus, verified photos, and instant bookings — no apps to download, no sign-up walls, no ads disguised as reviews.
Why we built this
Google Maps is a directory, not a booking tool. Instagram is a mood board. WhatsApp is how most restaurant reservations still happen — frustrating for diners, chaotic for restaurants. Every weekend, the same people re-Google the same five spots. We can do better.
How we work
Diners use Tamu free, forever. Restaurants pay us only for the bookings we send them and for paid promotion. In V1 we confirm every booking ourselves by phone, within fifteen minutes. That's how we launch without waiting for restaurant-side integrations.
What we care about
- Speed.Every page must load in under 1.5 seconds on slow 4G. If it doesn't, nothing else we do matters.
- Honesty. No pay-to-play ranking in editorial. Paid placement is labeled.
- Local-first. Ruracio bookings, nyama choma, M-Pesa, Safaricom-aware performance. Built for where we are.
